The 2026/27 wool selling season continued today, with 5 247 bales offered on the 4th sale of the season.

Long length wools made up 51% of the offering , with 66% of the offering testing 20 micron and finer. Sustainably certified wools comprised just under half of the merino wools on offer.

The market could not maintain its upward momentum on today’s sale, with a further strengthening of the ZAR against the US$ adding some downward pressure. If compared to the same auction of the previous season, prices are still at very good levels. A lower overall sales clearance of 88,1% was achieved on today’s sale.

The all-merino indicator shed 1,9% to close on R261,12 p/kg, with the certified indicator declining by 2,3% to close on R266,61 p/kg.

A highest price of R355,54 p/kg (clean) (R278,10 p/kg greasy) was paid for a 2-bale lot of 16 micron merino wool.

The Australian market returned mixed results this week, but ultimately ended the week 0,6% (AU$) down from the previous sale held on Wednesday, 2 September.

The major buyers on today’s sale were BKB Pinnacle Fibres (796), Fibre Flow (775), Stucken & Co (721) and Standard Wool SA (692).

The next sale will take place on 15 September 2026, where approximately 6 977 bales will be on offer.
